ISO 17025:2005 is the current and only worldwide recognized calibration standard.
Laboratories Accredited to this standard and performing calibrations to said standard is traceable to NIST/NRC/SCC or other countries appropriate National Metrology Institute or NMI.
It is globally understood that Laboratories Accredited by qualified sources to the above standard can supply calibration services that is recognized at the international level, by way of an MRA or Mutual Recognition agreement, such as ILAC or APLAC.
As such! There are only two types of calibrations:
Are authenticated by a third party that includes traceability to the appropriate National body, also includes the Uncertainty of measurement and relevant test data.
This type of calibration is not verified by anyone and as a result has no commercial value, the requester must be aware that the information received may not be accurate or useful for manufacturing purposes, since the data was not authenticated by a third party.
Due to the rigorous competency requirements of an Accredited Laboratory, the cost for this type of calibration is usually more expensive than Non-accredited calibration.
Therefore! Buyers beware.
Did you know?
Hidden costs and risks associated with the un-calibrated measuring device could be much higher than the cost of calibration. Avoid unscheduled downtime, prevent costly quality problems and product recalls, and keep your equipment in peak shape by calibrating it regularly.
Assures you that your measurements are accurate within the specification limits that led you to select the instrument in the first place. False information can send inferior quality to your customers, ruining your reputation for quality.
